Blackpool manager Ian Holloway has failed in his bid to bring Paddy McCourt to Bloomfield Road.

Holloway had thought the deal was in the bag, but following an impressive performance and a goal in Celtic's recent 4-1 win over St Johnstone, Tony Mowbray has changed his mind.

McCourt has come under criticism in the past from both Mowbray and Nigel Worthington, described by the Northern Ireland manager as being a "luxury player". Both managers can see the talent but clearly think he could try harder.

Holloway had a verbal agreement McCourt was coming on loan until the end of the season. McCourt joined Celtic in 2008 from Derry City and, despite some flashes of brilliance and sublime goals against Falkirk and St Mirran last season, has failed to hold down a regular place.

"I don't blame his manager but he changed his mind," Holloway explained to Sky Sports. "I was desperate for him.

"He was told he could come down today but he played so well last week that his manager has had to change his mind. "

Still no news on Healy, but with Sunderland now in for Man City's Benjani, that would suggest that Kenwyne Jones could perhaps go to Liverpool afterall. It's all speculation but reports from the north-east today do not even mention Healy as one of Steve Bruce's current striking options.
