Bit Of A Furory

Plymouth Argyle have caused a bit of a stir at Glentoran by inviting Coleraine's Rory Patterson to train with them at Home Park.

Glentoran have already agreed a three-year deal for the striker in July, who has scored 33 goals so far this season for his current club Coleraine. However, Glentoran see the move as disrespectful, believing they should have been informed.

"As far as we're concerned, he will be a Glentoran player next season and, if Plymouth want to sign him, then they'll have to negotiate with us, " Glentoran chairman Aubry Ralph told the Belfast Telegraph.

"I spoke to Hugh Wade [Coleraine's chairman] on Saturday, and he told me Rory would be in Plymouth this week. Despite texting him, I didn't hear anything before he left for Plymouth, " Ralph added.

"I think the advice he's receiving is poor, and it's a bit disrespectful not to let us know he was going to Plymouth. Maybe he's just being a little naive."

Patterson originally came to England to play for Rochdale before playing non-league at Bradford Park Avenue. Since returning home he has attracted the attention of Nigel Worthington who brought Patterson in for his first team debut against Albania earlier this month. Whether the opportunity to train with Plymouth is a poor decision is up for question, but certainly the Glens will be keeping a close eye on the situation and may have to work hard should Patterson make an impression.

Meanwhile Hull City have signed Iain Dowie as manager on a nine match basis until the end of the season following the sacking of Phil Brown at the weekend. The former QPR and Palace manager was given the nod after Avram Grant and Mark Hughes rejected the opportunity. The former Northern Ireland striker will be in familiar territory trying to save Hull from relegation. His last job was as Alan Shearer's assistant at Newcastle where both failed in their bid to keep the Mags in the top flight.
