The IFA's President Raymond Kennedy has held a meeting with former IFA Treasurer Dave Bowan about Linfield's claims to there being no get out clause in the 125 year contract the Association signed up to 23 yeas ago.
According to Kennedy, there is no sign of any paper work at Windsor Towers and so have asked Bowan if he can remember which drawer he put it in. Bowan was made redundant three years ago but was unable to remember which drawer the paperwork was put in or even if there was any in the first place.
"I had a meeting with David Bowen to find out how the contract was drawn up," confirmed Kennedy to the Belfast Telly.
"Eddie Barry, who was the association treasurer at the time has also been consulted to see how things were then and what paperwork there may be.
"This is a contract that was signed almost 25-years ago and things have changed since then. It wasn't the government who were involved, it was the Department of Education who put in £1million at the time of the building of the North Stand and we want to know exactly what it was they asked for. The terms of the agreement may not be relevant any more."
In July, the IFA wrote a letter to Linfield giving six months notice of their intention to terminate the agreement. Linfield have consulted their legal team and have authorised the severence on the proviso the value of the remainder of the contract is coughed up. This is estimated to be somewhere in the region of £30 million.
