Northern Ireland supporters will not be too happy that newly in-form midfielder Michael O'Connor has been dumped by Crewe boss Gudjon Thordarson and told he can leave.

Thordarson, a strict disciplinarian, it seems has lost his patience with O'Connor following an incident at the weekend. He was immediately given a three match ban but has now been told he can leave Gresty Road.

O'Connor has been in trouble in the past and was on the cusp of making the Northern Ireland squad for our qualifiers at the end of the month. Along with Tony Kane, O'Connor is one of the few we have managed to stop playing for the Republic.

It may be that O'Connor can turn this to his advantage with rumours that a number of Championship clubs may be keen to snap him up.
