Five times capped Glenman Gary Hamilton has been recalled to the senior squad and reckons he can score in Solna to add to Norn Iron's shocklist.
Hamilton has been recalled by Worthers after Keith Gillespie was forced to pull out along with Man U's Jonny Evans. With Warren Feeny suspended Worthers has had to dig deep.
Hamilton, who last played for his country against Switzerland in 2004, reckons he can replicate his form with the Glens on the international stage.
"I am always confident in my own ability and I know that if my head is right going into any game then I can do well," said Hamilton who has scored 12 goals already this season.
"It doesn't matter who I am playing against or at what level, I know I can do a job and that is why Nigel Worthington has called me into the squad.
"I know people will say that it is a big step up from playing in the Irish League to playing in international games but I think in the few games that I got before now (for Northern Ireland), I have done well.
"Now I think I am in a better position to play at this level because over the past two seasons I have been a full-time player with Glentoran.
"My fitness is better now than it was then so I don't think that will be a problem if I get the chance to come on. Obviously there is a massive gap in ability between the Irish League and internationals but I have been scoring goals and I feel sharp at the minute. It is my form for Glentoran that has got me this call-up and I am confident that I can make the step up." |
