B International Withdrawls
Tue, April 5 2009
Nigel Worthington is facing the inevitable loss of certain key players for tomorrows B international with Scotland at Clyde's Broadwood Stadium.
At such a critical stage of the season any withdrawls from the squad will come as no surprise. Dean Shiels is the most notable exclusion after suffering a knock in Saturdays 1-0 defeat by promoted Wolves. Also out are Bristol Rovers' Jeff Hughes, Oxford's Adam Chapman and Curtis Allen of Distillery.
Young Bournemouth star Josh McQuoid has been called in by Worthers. Josh flew to Belfast on Monday to join up with the squad before travelling to Clyde today after impressing in the U-21 squad.
Worthington has brought in several fresh faces after Jamie Ward, Craig Cathcart, Rory McArdle and Martin Donnelly were all ruled out ahead of the recent withdrawls.
Manchester United's promising midfielder Oliver Norwood has also been called up along with Shane Duffy of Everton, Celtic's Daniel Lafferty, Shane Ferguson of Newcastle United and Josh McQuoid.
David Healy had another horror show at the hands of Everton on Saturday. His second half appearance was ineffective as Sunderland suffered another home defeat to Everton. It looks likely that should Sunderland survive in the Premiership that Healy may be on the move in the summer. However, with their recent performances raising eyebrows it's difficult to know where the next point will come from, so relegation is still a strong likelihood with only four games remaining.
Michael O'Connor will be on the move shortly following Crewe Alexandra's relegation from the Championship at the weekend. It seems likely Hibs will be his destination.
