Wire Update and Apology
Thu, May 21 2009
Unfortunately, the challenge of finding a wifi connection in North Africa not only proved great, but sadly, afters tortuous hours of broken French intertwined with a dreadful attempt at Ulster Arabic, expensively unsuccessful as well.
So, with all the very best intentions apologies for not getting this update to you sooner. There's plenty to talk about too. The 0-3 thrashing of our B team at Clydebank a fortnight ago was going to make it interesting to see who Worthers was going to include in our forthcoming friendly in Italy. It was a poor performance following the managers's promise of a place in the senior squad for anyone who excelled.
But all eyes are on the end of the season and the predicament our boys face in their respective teams. Chris Brunt has had a great season with WBA scoring eight goals, but relegation was unavoidable, following Sunday's home defeat to Liverpool. There is a chance Brunty will have impressed a few onlookers, but Tony Mowbray will want keep his best for promotion next year. Martin Paterson scored his 18th of the season to see Burnley put away Reading in the weekend's play-off. Pato has had an outstanding season and alongside teammate Michael Duff all Northern Ireland fans will be routing for Burnley on bank holiday Monday as they take on Sheffield United. The Clarets have worked tirelessly this season and with a long tradition with Northern Irish stalwarts we wish them the very best. That said, look out for Blades' Jamie Ward.
It seems David Healy may be reacquainted with his old chum Roy Keane at Ipswich. No doubt Healy may not be that sorry, given the atrocious set of results the Black Cats have attained in recent games. However, with Sbraiga likely to be replaced and relegation a consideration it may not be in his interests. Steve Bruce is likely to make another move for Steve Davis at Rangers. The Gers are keen to get some cash in the bank and with Bruce a long admirer, he may not be so keen to snuff at the estimated £1.5mill price tag as he did last season. Cardiff City are also likely to bid for Sammy Clingan who will no doubt be leaving relegated Norwich City. The Bluebirds have expressed an interest saying they want a vital player for next season.
Despite Kyle Lafferty's cheating theatrics at the weekend it takes a strong person to apologise. His feigning injury saw Aberdeen's Charlie Mulgrew sent off. Lafferty has openly stated he will take whatever further punishment the SFA may dish out stating he deserves all he gets. Would be nice to see Drogba be a little human once in a while.
