Possible Healy Start
Wed, Nov 25 2009
David Healy could finally make a start against Wigan this Saturday.
Healy has seen himself slip down the pecking order at the Stadium of Light with Kenwyne Jones, Frazier Campbell and Darren Bent commanding forward positions. However, with Bent injured and Jones suspended for another game Steve Bruce will have to look at Healy, Campbell and Daryl Murphy to fill the void.
King David has been struggling to hold onto his throne of late, although has been on the bench for the last few Premiership games. His lack of first team performances has been manifested in his international performances, so an appearance at Wigan on Saturday would be a welcome opportunity for Healy to make his mark.
Healy scored on his debut against Stoke and in his first season scored in every competition for the Black Cats. However, since Steve Bruce's arrival, and ultimately the arrival of the golden-booted Darren Bent, Healy has struggled to find an opportunity to prove himself in the starting eleven.
Worthers is extolling the necessity of high energy performances and this may or may not have had something to do with Healy's omission in the recent friendly against Serbia.
So, a start on Saturday would be welcome as the unlikely fact of having to fight for an international place is now a reality.
Meanwhile Steve Jones continued his scoring run with Walsall last night bagging a seventh goal in nine games in their 3-0 win over Oldham. Worthington has now a job on in terms of team selection come March. Dean Shiels is also doing well at Doncaster and will too be wishing to capitalise on his squad inclusion against Serbia.
The future's bright.
