Another exciting weekend of FA Cup action saw a number of our senior squad take part but none to appear on the scoresheet.
We have been left again to look north of the border to see who's been wearing their golden boots. An injury time equaliser by Andrew Little for Rangers against Hearts spared any blushes at Ibrox to see the blue side of Glasgow remain seven points clear at the top of the SPL. Hearts 'keeper Marian Kello had earlier denied both Steve Davis and Kyle Lafferty. Celtic's Paddy McCourt took off the iPod to produce another classic, with a weaving run and shot into the top corner in Celtic's 4-1 win away to St Johnstone. Niall McGinn was unlucky not to score late in the first half, but for a tremendous save from Graeme Smith.
Meanwhile Steve Jones is set to make a return for Walsall in tomorrow night's rescheduled fixture at home to Norwich. Jonah, who has been sidelined with a groin injury, has only missed three games thanks to the weather, but as Walsall's leading goal scorer and creative talisman, it will be a welcome return given poor recent results.
Niall McGinn has pledged his future to Celtic following interest from Roberto Martinez at Wigan. Martinez was at Swansea when McGinn was there for a brief period before going to Celtic. However, McGinn, a regular at Parkhead, believes he must be doing something right and does not think a move south would be in his interests.
Michael O'Connor has been turning heads at Scunthorpe this season with some riveting performances. He has come on leaps and bounds under Nigel Adkins and is apparently attracting interest from Newcastle, West Ham and Hull City. Scunny would be reluctant to lose him, but by the same token would find it difficult to reject any decent offers from potential suitors.
Happy Days has been scouring messageboards and bribing journalists, agents and employees generally associated with Sunderland AFC to find out the latest news on our fallen hero David Healy. Sadly though, interest amongst both Sunderland supporters and the press in the north-east is virtually non-existent. Healy has been off the radar for so long he has quite literally been forgotten. Latest rumours are that Coventry City are interested following an initial approach last summer. However, Healy did tell the local press late last week that if he had a choice he would like to make a return to Elland Road. He still holds Leeds Utd close to his heart, but a return would seem unlikely. With The Whites securing the services of Beckford until the end of the season at least, and with Healy not match-fit and not the most popular player when he was at Leeds in the first place, it is probably pie-in-the-sky to think such a scenario likely.
