Heat On Healy
Tue, Jan 26 2010
The latest news from the Sunderland Stadium of Light is that Barnsley are in poll position for David Healy.
However, sources at Barnsley have told Happy Days exclusively that the deal is off. It seems that Mark Robins is keen to bring Healy to Oakwell but only on a loan deal. It is alleged that Sunderland want at least £1million to offload their ostracized striker. Healy was signed by Roy Keane two and half years ago for an undisclosed fee.
Steve Bruce has been targeting Paraguayan international Salvador Cabanas, who was shot twice in the head at the weekend in a bar in Mexico City, so it is unlikely he will be fit for a week or two! So with Sunderland's January targets slipping through their fingers Healy could find himself having to honour his contract regardless of whether he wishes to or not.
Ideally Steve Bruce wants cash for him now, otherwise the club will get nothing for him in the summer when his contract expires. Also said to be in the frame are Ipswich Town, Cardiff City, Derby County and Coventry City. However, Sunderland may scupper any chance of him going anywhere if loan deals are all the proposed clubs wish for.
Meanwhile, Martin Paterson is raring to go for Burnley following a lengthy lay-off with knee surgery. Pato played in Saturday's FA Cup defeat at the hands of Reading, but it should not be too long before we see the Happy Days favourite back on scoring terms.
